(sponsored) Pan-toasted Pilchards Sandwich

4 Servings ~ 5 min
  • 1 x 425 g Royal Ocean Pilchards in chilli sauce
  • 8 slices brown/ wholewheat bread
  • 1 medium tomato, chopped
  • 1/4 small onion, chopped
  • Butter/Margarine to spread
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar (optional)

This here is a simple and tasty fix you can prepare, especially when you’re hard pressed with time. Almost everyone enjoys a good sandwich. You can have this for breakfast or a lunch box idea. I used Royal Oceans Pilchards in chilli sauce to prepare this sandwich and some brown bread, making this a healthy sandwich. I loved the subtle sweetness the sugar adds to the sandwich. If you don’t have a griddle pan you can still use a regular pan.

Equipment

  • Griddle/ Regular frying pan
  • Spatula
  • Table knife
  • Bowl
  • Plate

Instructions

  1. Get your ingredients together. These include; 8 slices brown/ wholewheat bread
1 x 425 g Royal Ocean Pilchards in chilli sauce
    1 medium tomato, chopped
    1/4 small onion, chopped
    Butter/Margarine to spread
    2 tbsp brown sugar (optional)
  2. Separate the pilchards from the sauce, putting them in a separate bowl. Gently break them up with a fork, leaving them a bit chunky.
  3. Add the onion and tomato. Combine gently and set aside.
  4. Spread butter or margarine on your bread slices. Sprinkle some sugar onto each slice.
  5. Preheat your pan on the stove top. Place a slice of bread with the buttered side facing down. Add the pilchards, onion and tomato mix. Cover the sandwich with another slice of bread, the buttered side facing upwards.
  6. Allow the bottom slice to get toasted, flip it over and cook for a few minutes until the slice is also toasted.
  7. Remove from heat, repeat process until all the sandwiches are done. Enjoy!
