How to make Pancakes

5 Servings ~ 25 minutes
  • 1 1/2 cups plain flour
  • 500 ml fresh milk
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 50g margarine (melted)
  • Pure vegetable oil for frying

Pancakes are something we used to have for breakfast every now and then growing up, together with other breakfast dainties such as crumpets and  mafatty (fat cooks)! . It’s a shame that back then I so didn’t like them that much! Kids just have taste buds of their own, lol! I enjoy them now, with a little honey or toffee syrup drizzle or with strawberry sauce even.

Quick Instructions

  1. Get your ingredients ready, which are plain flour (1 1/2 cups), melted margarine (50 g), fresh milk (500 ml), one egg, baking powder, (2 tsp) sugar (2 tbsp) and salt (1/4 tsp). Get your pan ready too as the pancake batter will not take time to prepare at all. Sift your dry ingredients (flour, sugar, salt and baking powder) into a bowl. Make a well in the centre then add the rest of the ingredients.
  2. Mix until you get a smooth batter. Heat oil in pan and using a ladle, spoon the batter into pan. As soon as bubbles start to form on the top, use a spatula to flip it over and brown the other side. Repeat process until all your pancake batter is finished. Serve with a honey or syrup drizzle, whipped fresh cream  or one of your favourite sauces. And that’s it, enjoy!
