I was in one of the supermarkets the other day and as I was passing the dried beans section, something I hadn’t seen in a while was caught in the corner of my eye! Haricot beans!!!! I remembered them from my childhood when my mum used to make homemade baked beans. I had to grab a packet and do them myself, reliving my childhood days!! (we all have memories of those). So here goes, making baked beans is super easy…
Equipment
- Medium sized pot x2
- Casserole dish
- Wooden spoon
- Measuring jug
Instructions
- Get your ingredients together. These include; 500 g Haricot beans
1.2 ltrs water
1 chicken stock cube
2 tsp salt
1 tbsp oil
1 tsp garlic and herb seasoning
7 large tomatoes, grated
1 cup tomato sauce
4 tbsp brown granulated sugar
3 tbsp tomato puree
3 tbsp Worcestershire sauce - Put the haricot beans in pot. Wash and rinse. Add the stock cube, water and 1 tsp salt to the pot. Close pot and bring to the boil.
- Reduce heat and simmer until the water is finished and beans are tender and cooked through. Set aside.
- In a separate pot, heat oil and add garlic and herb seasoning. Add the tomatoes, tomato puree, tomato sauce, sugar, Worcestershire sauce and 1 tsp salt. Simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add the cooked haricot beans to the sauce. Close pot and simmer on low heat for 20 min.
- Pour the baked beans in tomato sauce into your casserole dish. Close it and bake at 120 degrees for another 20 min. Your baked beans are ready. Enjoy!
