This is my grandmother’s recipe for cheese scones which I have tried this past weekend and they were easy and delicious!
Requirements (for mobile viewers)
- 1 cup of self raising flour
- 1 cup of grated cheddar cheese ( cheese can be as strong as you like)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Either 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper or 1 teaspoon mixed mustard (blend with the milk)
- Milk to mix (usually around a cup of milk)
Method
- Mix flour, cheese, salt and pepper
- Add sufficient milk to make a soft dough but not enough to make it sticky
- Pat out with hands on a floured board. ( I never roll the dough) to about 1inch thick. Cut out with biscuit cutter and bake until scones appear cooked ( goldybrown colour) for about ten plus minutes in a very hot oven. I use Gas mark 8 (230 degrees Celsius/450F).
Good luck. Change anything as it seems best to you as you try out the above.
Hope you have success with this recipe. It really is dead simple.
